WYSA Academy

Due to COVID-19 regulations affecting soccer for the 2021 season we are not anticipating academy level game play therefore we will, initially, balance teams in the affected age groups. If there is a change in our district and clubs are expected to tier we will advise parents of the options at that time via email.

In divisional soccer (U11, U12, U14 & U16), teams are organized into two levels to provide a more balanced environment for skill development. Division B is for more recreational players and those developing skills needed for Academy. Academy is a more competitive level of soccer for players with advanced skills for their age and the ability to honour a higher commitment level to the sport.

These commitments include:

  1. Minimum 1 practice per week January - March: time & night to be announced after teams are formed
  2. Regular attendance at 2 practices per week and all league games during the entire outdoor season (April - June and September - October
  3. Minimum 1 tournament

There may be additional costs associated with participating on a WYSA Academy team (to be determined by coaches & parents after the teams are formed)

WYSA Academy teams will play within the COYSA house league and will compete against similar level teams from the other COYSA clubs.

Players will be selected for the WYSA Academy based on the following:

-Commitment to the program (limited interference from other activities)
-Attitude / work ethic
-Soccer skills
-Coachability (willingness to take and ability to apply instruction)
-Understanding of the game
-Position preference (eg. goalkeeper)

Academy player selections will be done through the following processes:

  • WYSA Technical Director assessments at fall games/practices
  • Evaluations from the player's current coaches
  • Assessments by club and Whitecaps coaches in November

Registration for the 2020 Academy Team Assessments is now OPEN - Please register the same as you do for league soccer - registration link on the home page.

Days & Times will be announced once we have a firm open date for the new West Kelowna Multi-Sport Dome.
