In divisional soccer (U11, U12, U14 & U16), teams are organized into two levels to provide a more balanced environment for skill development. Division B is for more recreational players and those developing skills needed for Academy. Academy is a more competitive level of soccer for players with advanced skills for their age and the ability to honour a higher commitment level to the sport.
These commitments include regular attendance at two practices / week and all league games during the entire outdoor season (April - June and September - October), possible off season training and possible attendance at 1 or more tournaments. There may be additional costs associated with participating on a WYSA Academy team (to be determined at a later date).
WYSA Academy teams will play within the COYSA house league and will compete against similar level teams from the other COYSA clubs.
Players will be selected for the WYSA Academy based on the following:
-Commitment to the program (limited interference from other activities)
-Attitude / work ethic
-Soccer skills
-Coachability (willingness to take and ability to apply instruction)
-Understanding of the game
-Fitness
-Position preference (eg. goalkeeper)
Playing history, performance at the October sessions and evaluations from the player's current coach all play a part in Academy selection.
